Captain Hook is the main villain in J.M. Barrie’s play Peter Pan. He is a murderous pirate captain of the Jolly Roger galleon and is also the ruler of the pirate village in Neverland where he is very much feared. He is also Peter Pan’s mortal enemy and hate him obsessively. Like his name suggests, Captain Hook wears an iron hook in place of his hand. His hand was cut off by Peter Pan during one of their fights and it was eaten by a crocodile. The crocodile who ate Hook’s hand liked the taste very much so he is constantly following him around. The only good thing is that the crocodile has a ticking sound from a clock that he also swallowed so Hook can tell if the crocodile is near whenever he hears a ticking sound.
Captain Hook is often described as a pirate with blue eyes and long dark curls that are said to look like black candles at a distance. He is often portrayed wearing a large feathered hat and a red coat. Since Captain’s Hook’s first appearance, he has always been featured in several Peter Pan adaptations. One of the most popular was in Disney’s animated adaptation of Peter Pan. In Disney’s version, Captain Hook was somewhat of a fool and appeared more comical rather than a feared villain. He is also very much dependent on his sidekick Mr. Smee who he likes to boss around. Captain Hook has also been featured in several other movies and animation. He even got his own film “Hook” in 1991 and was played by Dustin Hoffman with Robin Williams playing as Peter Pan.
